So it can be very disconcerting whenever a vehicle suddenly overtakes at high speed - especially on narrow country roads, and in twilight conditions. Or at least tries to... This can be a real problem, and also dangerous, if it happens at a blind spot on the road. To help you in this kind of situation, and to give you plenty of advance warning, Garmin has developed the *Varia RTL516* Radar with Tail Light. Basically it becomes your " third eye", capable of seeing what's behind you up to 140 m away and telling you via your compatible smartphone or Edge bike computer. The *Varia RTL516* Radar with Tail Light sends visual and audible warning signals when a vehicle is approaching. So you're always aware of what's going on behind you.

In addition, this smart, compact radar device can be paired with certain Garmin wearables or the optional radar display unit. With the smartphone app (Varia app), you receive an instant warning on your phone in the form of graphic displays and acoustic and vibrating alarms which indicate the position and speed of approaching cars. When used with a compatible smartphone, the Varia radar is integrated with your favourite apps, e.g. Ride with GPS, to display the alarms superimposed on the maps. The integrated bright LED tail light is also a very good thing to have. Visible in daylight at up to 1.6 kilometres, it alerts car drivers to your presence as early as possible.
