Ratchet fastener
Refers to a buckle (e.g. on helmets) in which a plastic strap with teeth is pushed through a closure in which it engages. The teeth on the strap permit adjustment of the length. In order to open the buckle, the strap is disengaged and pulled back. The length adjustment is therefore lost and must be repeated the next time the helmet is used. Very convenient to operate; quick to close and open; easy readjustment on the move.
