Lithium-Ion Batteries

Welcome to DELO’s premium starter battery line—lithium-ion batteries. These batteries are more powerful and significantly lighter than conventional lead-acid batteries. DELO lithium-ion batteries are housed in special, durable nylon casings and feature Brass terminal connectors to ensure optimal conductivity. These powerhouses allow you to use up to 100% of their capacity. With proper care of your DELO lithium-ion batteries, you can expect your new battery to have a lifespan that is up to six times longer.

More details:

• The state of charge is regulated by a processor (balancer), ensuring the highest safety standards for modern lithium-ion batteries
• Up to 60% lighter than conventional lead-acid batteries
• Thanks to their compact dimensions—combined with the adhesive pads included in the package—these batteries are highly versatile
• Up to six times the service life of a conventional lead-acid battery
• No memory effect
• Can also be installed upside down, as no acid can leak
• Fast charging with high charging current is possible
• Very low self-discharge (max. 5% per month)

Information on converting from lead-acid to Li-ion batteries:

• Switching from a conventional starter battery (lead-acid battery) to a lithium battery is generally feasible for nearly all motorbikes
• If the conversion does not cause any problems or limitations, no action is required
• Note the motorbike’s model year—was it shipped from the factory with a lead-acid battery? Many older motorbikes have alternator regulators that either fail to fully charge lithium batteries or deliver excessively high charging currents.
• This is also due to normal wear and tear on the regulators over the years. Both factors can lead to significantly reduced runtime of the lithium-ion batteries, ranging from malfunctions to total failure
• Check the function and performance of your motorbike’s charging regulator before converting to a lithium-ion battery
• Ideally, use a voltmeter connected to the battery terminals to measure how high the charging voltage rises when you increase the idle speed. The charging voltage should remain below 14.6 volts
• If in doubt—or just to be safe—replace the old regulator immediately with a Carmo Li-Ion alternator regulator; see “Related Products”

Good to know:
Due to their specific properties, lead-acid batteries can only utilize 30% of their capacity, whereas lithium-ion batteries utilize nearly 100% of their capacity. Therefore, the lithium versions of DELO batteries require only about 1/3 of the capacity (lower amp-hours) of a comparable lead-acid battery to deliver the same starting power.

Warning: Never expose the starter battery to intense heat, such as direct sunlight, open flames, or similar sources. Do not use the battery in explosive environments or near flammable liquids, gases, or dust. Do not overcharge the battery, and use appropriate chargers. Keep the battery, as well as the small parts and packaging film included in the delivery, out of the reach of children, as they pose a choking hazard. Never touch the terminals with metal objects, as this can cause an electric shock or a short circuit. Ensure that the positive and negative terminals are connected correctly. Do not operate the battery if it shows visible damage. Never open the casing, and do not make any modifications to the battery or its accessories. The electrolyte contained in the battery is corrosive.
